Time and place has always been an issue for Nicky. While growing up in the 80's, he spent a few years listening to popular bands of the day until his father brought home Led Zeppelin II. Then everything changed! He became completely obsessed with albums from the decade before.
While taking all of that great music in, he noticed what separated the good bands from the great bands: songwriting. Great bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Pink Floyd, and even Black Sabbath experimented with different sounds, genres, instruments and effects. You never knew what you were getting when that needle dropped on the vinyl!
Having started on bass guitar, Nicky initially started learning some guitar and keyboards only to aid him with his writing. With the passage of time, however, he dramatically improved his technique on each instrument and even added drums to his arsenal. While getting a late start on his recording career, his is now able to realize his vision all on his own.
Instead of the standard “ten rock songs and two power ballads” formula often found on hard rock albums, he concentrated on making his self-titled debut more like a musical smorgasbord. You will find songs filled with angst and anger, like many of his contemporaries, but you also have regret, loss, romance, sarcasm, lust, loneliness, love, and even humor. There is hard rock, blues, doom metal, folk ballads, and even reggae-pop; this album has something for everybody! Come take a ride on a roller coaster of sound and emotion!
